Telecoms Bulletin - Talk Talk Removing Temporary STMF Fix
At the start of 2024, Telecare Service Providers saw a significant increase in failed calls. This was identified as an issue with STMF calls being carried over the new digital network being installed, specifically by Talk Talk.
To deal with this issue, Talk Talk brought in a temporary technical fix by routing calls from the affected areas to other parts of the network. Following the instances of failed calls, affected Telecare Service Providers changed alarms to DTMF or away from STMF units entirely to resolve this.
Talk Talk have announced that they will be removing this temporary technical fix in January 2025. This means that there is no way to guarantee STMF calls can be used. However, the calls might be safely routed if they aren't using the affected parts of the UK networks.
Given the unpredictability of calls through STMF, our advice is to ensure no alarms are fixed to STMF at any point.
